Studies suggest that nifedipine and indomethacin tocolysis of women in preterm labor with intact membranes may delay delivery between 48 hours and 72 hours after 26 weeks of gestation, but specific data for pregnancies treated before 26 weeks of gestation are lacking 44 45
Nifedipine belong to a group of medications called calcium channel blockers

Procardia (nifedipine) is a calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and to treat angina (chest pain)
This drug should be used during pregnancy only if the benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus
Procardia, also known as nifedipine, is a medication commonly used during pregnancy to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and reduce the risk of preterm

Hypertension (defined in this topic as systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg), is a common complication of pregnancy and the incidence is increasing [ 1,2 ]
These medications are administered
Dizziness can occur, especially when the medication is started
Its main use until now has been in the management of hypertension and angina
Tocolysis may enable pregnancy prolongation, at least over the short term, and thus provide time for further in utero maturation and interventions that may improve infant outcome
A common approach is to administer an initial loading dose of 20 mg orally, followed by a second dose of 20 mg orally in 90 minutes
Nifedipine is available as an extended-release pill (ER) that's taken by mouth Nifedipine Mechanism of action inhibits movement of calcium ions across cell membranes; calcium channel blocker; arterial and venous vasodilator; reduces preload and afterload; prevents coronary artery spasm and decreases total peripheral resistance; reduces myocardial oxygen demands; does not prolong AV nodal conduction

The procardia makes me feel terrible when I take it the first few hours
Nifedipine is a medication that been used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), irregular heartbeat (cardiac arrhythmia) and chest pain (angina)
So I studied the literature and what it basically says is that nifedipine can delay labor once it started, for 48 hours and up to a week, so that the mother can receive steroid shots or be moved to a different I'm on Procardia too
